Champion prediction
The 14^th Edition of the women euros is set to be one of the best yet I think. The women’s game has grown so well in the last decade or so, and with prize money more than doubled compared with the previous tournaments, it shows how big a tournament this is for all the nations involved.

The last two winners of this tournament have both been the hosts, but I don’t think that will be the case for Switzerland sadly this year as there are too many strong teams involved.

England are an obvious choice to put up there, as the girls look to defend the title they won back in 2022. That was followed by the final of FIFA Women's World Cup, where and me and the team sadly lost out in a narrow defeat to Spain. Since then it’s been mixed bag of form and now with key players missing – Mary Earps and Fran Kirby both retiring, Millie Bright unavailable and the fact we are in a tough group, the girls will have to be on it from the very beginning if they want to reclaim the title.

In 13 previous editions, Germany have been crowned champions on eight occasions, reaching the final a total of nine times, including the last tournament. They have great names to call on from the world of football, Ann-Katrin Berger, Giulia Gwinn, and Sara Dabritz who are all experienced enough to help Germany try build on their Olympic bronze medal from Paris 2024 by going deep into this tournament.

World champions Spain have to the favourites. Having dominated Europe in recent years both internationally and domestically, they are a powerhouse in women’s football and their talent and squad depth is insane. They currently hold both the World cup and nations league titles and will really want to add the Euros to complete the set.

When you share a pitch with two-time Ballon d'Or winners in Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas, its hard to stand out but 18-year-old Schertenleib is ready for her first major tournament after a great season at European powerhouse Barcelona. With eight caps and two goals for host Switzerland, I think she will be a shining star to help her nation go far with the support of the nation.

What else can we say about the best player in world. The back-to-back Ballon d'Or winner is capable of running games from deep or winning them as we have so often seen with important goals. This is one of the trophies the she is missing and, after losing the UEFA Champions League final with Barcelona, she will be desperate to bounce back in Switzerland and for me will be the player of the tournament.

With her leading this Spain side which is a squad of players who, with Spain and Barça, have shown an ability to perform when it matters on the big stage they will be the winners for me. This is a competition they have yet to win, and will be desperate to change that and go down in this history books of women’s football.

Obviously I will be a bit biased but Alessia Russo is my favourite. Les is obviously a great friend of mine as I grew up with her and we played at Man United together for many seasons. That allowed me to see her quality day in and day out and as the 2024-25 Women’s Super League top scorer plus her seven in the Champions League, with Arsenal lifting the trophy she sis full of confidence. her good scoring record for England is nearly 1 in 2 scoring 22 goals in 50 games for England and she loves the Euros after making a name fer herself from the bench last tournament finishing 3rd in the golden boot.

The 27-year-old has scored 52 goals in 75 caps for Germany, with six of those coming during Euro 2025 qualifying. With Alexandra Popp retiring she is now the main striker and can look to lead the lone for the Germans.

Of course a Barcelona player will have a chance. Pajor was amazing in her first season at Barcelona with 22 goals in 28 league games for Barcelona, plus another seven in the Champions League. For Poland, Pajor has scored 68 goals in 101 games so far, including four in the qualifying play-offs to help her nation reach their first ever European Championship. She is deadly in front of goal and doesn’t need a second chance.

As an England midfielder who played for my old club Man United I have to include Grace. She won the young player of the year in the WSL the season before this and this season. Scored eight goals and was named in the Barclays WSL Team of the Year. She is dynamic and energetic ad has a keen eye for goal. Alongside Kiera I think she will be a standout player in this tournament.
