In recent years Japan has dominated Asian football. But now the South Korean Olympic squad is probably the best squad in Asia. Coach Hong Myung-Bo came fourth in 2002 World Cup as a player and started coaching young players in 2007, hoping to get the team past the group stage.
2004 was the only time South Korea got into the quarterfinals in the past 7 Olympics. The coach has decided to call up the strongest players to break the "hoodoo". Over-age players Arsenal striker Park Chu-Young and former national team captain, Suwon Bluewings goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryong, and Busan IPark defender and regular player Kim Chang-Soo can bring a winning edge to the squad.
Also, Sunderland striker Ji Dong-Won, Augsburg midfielder Koo Ja-Cheol, Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng and regular player of national team, and midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung, are deemed as the future of South Korean football. Koo Ja-Cheol was the top scorer at AFC Cup last year and is the team's captain. He will lead the team as they strive for the best result.
