Argentina vs Croatia

Argentina have enough quality to clinch all 3 points

Went into their opening game with a strong lineup for, Argentina were able to break the deadlock with a brilliant strike by Sergio Aguero. However their adavantage was short-lived as opposition Iceland responded swiftly with a equaliser. Argentina was awarded a penalty later in the game, but star player Messi's effort was bravely denied by the Iceland goalkeeper. The game end 1-1 as Argentina failed to clinch an opening victory.

A Lukas Modric's penalty goal and a Nigeria own goal were enough to seal Croatia's victory in their first game of the tournament. Striker Nikola Kalinic has been kicked out of Croatia's World Cup squad due to disciplinary reason.

Argentina is a team troubled by internal political issues. Before the start of this tournament, I feared they might struggle in this World Cup. My fear is validated as they failed to clinch an opening victory over a World Cup debutant Iceland. Make no mistake, having reach the final in the last World Cup, Argentina is a team that seldom lacks in quality. Sergio Aguero's stunning effort showed everyone that even with half a chance, Argentina is capable of scoring. I had the pleasure to play alongside Sergio in Atletico Madrid, and was able to witness first hand his brilliant ability when attacking up front. He have just had a great season playing for Manchester City, and I believe he can carry his great form to the World Cup. Bare in mind they also have one of the best of player in Messi. Despite missing a penalty in the opening game, I still believe he can regain his confidence and perform in the next match. Honestly, I already excited to see him play again for Argentina.

Croatia’s 2-0 victory in the opening game against Nigeria can be seen as a great result by the fans. I was especially impressed by their Lukas Modric’s brilliant display in the midfield during that game. The Real Madrid play-maker not only scored a penalty to secure Croatia’s victory, he managed to dominate the game with fashion. However, it is worth highlighting the poor finishing performance by Croatia strikers, namely Andrej Kramaric. Croatia will likely to struggle against Argentina if they failed to battle for possession, which could be likely. Thus, I am sure Argentina will have enough quality to beat Croatia and clinch their first victory of the tournament.

Argentina won 2 out of 4 previously encounters with Croatia.
